Nigerian music icon Yemi Alade has received her first-ever solo Grammy nomination in the prestigious Best African Music Performance category for her hit track, “Tomorrow.”
In an emotional interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo at the 15th-anniversary celebration of CNN’s African Voices in Lagos, Yemi Alade expressed her joy and disbelief at the recognition. “It feels surreal. It feels like a miracle to me. I almost thought this moment might never come. It’s a good time to be alive,” she shared.
The nomination marks a significant milestone in Yemi’s illustrious career, affirming her place as one of Africa’s leading voices on the global stage. She also spoke about the reassurance the nomination gave her, reflecting on the power of perseverance. “I felt seen because it gave me reassurance that anybody out there can become anything. You just have to believe and not stop. Even if the world wants you to stop, don’t stop.”
