The 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards turned into a triumphant night for filmmaker and actor Femi Adebayo, whose epic film Jagun Jagun dominated the ceremony, claiming six awards. Held on November 24 at the stunning Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State, the event celebrated the best in Nigerian cinema, and Adebayo’s masterpiece stole the spotlight.
Jagun Jagun clinched major wins, including Best Actor and Best Costume, further solidifying its status as one of the year’s standout Nollywood productions. Other notable winners included Momiwa by Biodun Stephen, which won Best Screenplay and Best Editing, and Unknown Soja by Kolade Alebi, which bagged awards for Best Actress and Best Child Actress.
A highlight of the evening was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo. The honor was bestowed by Kwara State Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman and the Director-General of the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism, Aare Abisoye Fagade. During the presentation, Governor AbdulRahman emphasized Kwara’s ambition to become Nigeria’s next film production hub, expressing hopes that the newly launched Sugar Factory Film Studios would soon host major epic productions.
Founded by Seun Oloketuyi, the BON Awards are a traveling event designed to recognize the immense talent and contributions of Nigeria’s film professionals. Executive Director Feranmi Olaoye noted that the winners were chosen after meticulous evaluation by an expert jury.
Hosted by the beloved actress Toyin Abraham, the glamorous event brought together Nollywood’s elite, including Mercy Aigbe-Adeoti, Binta Ayo-Mogaji, and Kazeem Adeoti, making it a night to remember for the industry.
With Jagun Jagun leading the pack and the BON Awards shining a spotlight on excellence, Nigerian cinema continues to soar to new heights.
