Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, famously known as Speed Darlington or AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police during a show in Owerri, Imo State. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington was apprehended upon his return to Nigeria for the performance, though the reasons for his arrest remain unclear.
This development comes weeks after SaharaReporters disclosed that Darlington had been detained in Abuja following a petition by fellow musician Burna Boy, accusing him of cyberstalking. During that incident, Speed Darlington was initially arrested in Lagos and moved through various police formations before landing at the Intelligence Response Team headquarters in Guzape, Abuja.
Adeyanju, who visited Darlington during his previous detention, described the accusations as baseless and expressed determination to secure his client’s bail. While police authorities allowed Adeyanju to review the petition, they declined to release a copy to him.
The latest arrest has sparked concern among fans and human rights advocates, as they await further details about the charges against the controversial artist.
