Disney+ has officially announced that two-time Emmy-winning actor Courtney B. Vance will take over the role of Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This follows the passing of Lance Reddick, who portrayed the King of Olympus in one of his final roles during the show’s first season.
Vance, celebrated for his roles in The People v. O.J. Simpson and Lovecraft Country, expressed his excitement about joining the beloved series. “I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience, and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug,” Vance shared.
Rick Riordan, the original author and series co-creator, described the casting as “a gift from the gods,” while co-showrunner Dan Shotz praised Vance for his dedication to both the role and honoring Reddick’s legacy.
Season 2 of the highly anticipated series will introduce other notable cast members, including Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace, Andra Day as Athena, and Daniel Diemer as Tyson. The series will continue to star Walker Scobell (Percy), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is set to premiere in 2025. Fans eagerly await Vance’s portrayal of Zeus as the show delves deeper into the mythological adventures of Camp Half-Blood.
