American actor and comedian Marlon Wayans, 52, has shared his experiences with fatherhood and supporting his transgender child, Kai. The Scary Movie star first revealed in November that his eldest child had transitioned, saying, “I have a daughter that transitioned into a son.”
In a candid interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Wayans opened up about adapting to Kai’s transition, noting that his son is still the same person, saying, “They just got a beard now. Okay! Same baby.”
As a father of three — Kai, son Shawn, 22, and daughter Axl, 21 months — Wayans admitted that he went through the five stages of grief before reaching a place of acceptance. He reflected on his journey, saying, “I learned that I’m a lot stronger than I thought I was.”
In addition to discussing his role as a father, Wayans also touched on the emotional loss of both his parents. His mother, Elvira Alethia, passed away at 81 in July 2020, and his father, Howell Stouten, died at 86 in April 2023.
Wayans reflected on the challenges he faced during this period, emphasizing the importance of acceptance, both in life and in his family. “Once you accept, you release, give yourself to God, and then everything is all right. It’s better, actually,” he shared.
