Sony Pictures has announced that the highly anticipated anime feature Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will hit theaters across North America on November 8. Produced by Crunchyroll, Sony’s specialty anime streamer, the film is a direct continuation of the popular anime series Overlord, which is based on the novels by Japanese author Kugane Maruyama.
The Sacred Kingdom picks up where season 4 of Overlord left off, continuing the epic saga of Momonga, a salaryman trapped in his favorite video game world. The film, animated by Madhouse studio, focuses on the “Holy Kingdom” arc, bringing new challenges and adventures for the beloved characters.
Anime fans can look forward to experiencing Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom in Imax and premium large formats, with options for both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub. The release coincides with a competitive weekend at the box office, as it will go head-to-head with Lionsgate’s holiday comedy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Focus Features’ awards contender Conclave, and Vertical’s sci-fi thriller Elevation starring Anthony Mackie.
Directed by Naoyuki Ito, with a script coordinated by Yukie Sugawara, and character design led by Satoshi Tasaki, the film promises to deliver the high-quality animation and gripping storytelling that fans of Overlord have come to expect. The soundtrack, composed by Shuji Katayama, is set to enhance the immersive experience.
