Journey had to pause their Oklahoma concert Thursday night after drummer Deen Castronovo suffered a medical scare onstage and was rushed to the hospital. Castronovo fell ill two songs into the band’s set at the BOK Center in Tulsa during their 2026 “Final Frontier” tour.
The Deen Castronovo hospitalized news was announced to the crowd by keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who walked to the microphone shortly after Castronovo left the stage. Video posted online shows Cain explaining that it was an “unfortunate situation,” apologizing for the inconvenience, and asking everyone to keep Castronovo in their prayers. Minutes later, guitarist Neal Schon returned to the stage to report that Castronovo had been taken to a hospital and would be replaced by his drum tech, Steve Toomey, for the rest of the show.
Schon told the audience at one point that Castronovo is going to be “fine.” The rest of the band returned to the stage with singer Arnel Pineda also asking for prayers before they continued their set. The band finished the show without further incident. Castronovo has been Journey’s drummer since 1998, with a brief hiatus from 2015 to 2021. No further details about his condition have been released, and the band has not issued a formal statement.
