Nearly a decade after capturing global audiences on the silver screen, the cultural phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians is officially making its long-awaited return as an expanded television project. HBO announced that the franchise will continue as a high-profile original series, trading the traditional two-hour movie format for an eight-episode arc that dives deeper into Kevin Kwan’s celebrated book series.

In a massive win for fans, the upcoming television adaptation is bringing back major key players from the 2018 box-office hit. Constance Wu and Henry Golding are officially returning to reprise their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young. They will be joined by Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, returning in a capacity alongside comedic standout Ronny Chieng.

The transition to television is being spearheaded by familiar creative forces. Adele Lim, co-writer of the original film, is stepping into the roles of showrunner and executive producer, working alongside original director Jon M. Chu.

“This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes to delve into the characters and worlds of Kevin Kwan’s brilliant books,” Lim shared in a statement.

With production slated to kick off soon, the series promises to deliver all the opulence, drama, and heartfelt comedy that made the original movie a historic milestone.
