Sass Jordan, the Montreal-raised rock singer whose powerful voice and stage presence made her one of Canada’s most enduring musical performers, has died. She was 63. A post on her social media accounts Saturday said she died the previous day, “surrounded by her loving family”. The statement remembered her as an “inimitable force of nature” and an “irreplaceable being of light and joy”.

The Sass Jordan dead news came after she cancelled the remainder of her 2026 tour dates in September due to a “serious medical condition”. While her family did not officially release a cause of death, multiple reports and tributes from fellow musicians said she had been battling cancer.

Born in Birmingham, England, and raised in Montreal, Jordan broke through with her 1988 debut album Tell Somebody, which earned her the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year in 1989. Her 1992 album Racine became the biggest of her career, selling over 450,000 copies and featuring hits like “Make You a Believer” and “You Don’t Have to Remind Me” . Billboard named her its top female rock artist of 1992, and she toured alongside Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and Van Halen . She also served as a judge on Canadian Idol for all six seasons and recorded the duet “Trust in Me” with Joe Cocker for The Bodyguard soundtrack.
