The Massachusetts high school sports community is mourning the tragic loss of Owen Coyne, a standout senior and football co-captain at Marblehead High School, who has passed away at the age of 17.

Coyne passed away following a sudden brain hemorrhage. His family confirmed that the internal medical event was entirely unrelated to any athletic impact or injury on the field.

Standing 6’4″ as a wide receiver and defensive safety, Coyne was widely respected as a premier three-sport athlete. In addition to serving as a football co-captain, he excelled as a standout track sprinter and high jumper, as well as a skilled baseball player. His leadership and character earned him praise from coaches, classmates, and the wider community. He had recently committed to play football at Williams College starting next year.

Tributes from school officials, athletic programs, and collegiate coaches have poured in to honor his memory, while Marblehead Public Schools have provided ongoing grief counseling and support for students and staff.
