The ongoing legal battle surrounding Kenneth Petty the husband of superstar rapper Nicki Minaj and his accuser Jennifer Hough has taken a new turn as Petty pushes for a complete dismissal of the civil lawsuit.
Petty’s legal team submitted new documents featuring a notarized, typewritten letter from 1994.
The Core Claims: Petty argues that the decades-old document allegedly written by Hough to the District Attorney while his original criminal case was pending undermines her current civil claims.
Disputed Statements: The filing highlights phrases from the letter calling the initial allegations “half true and half false,” alongside descriptions of a dispute following a refusal to engage further.
The Criminal Background: Petty was ultimately convicted of first-degree attempted rape in April 1995, stemming from an incident when both parties were 16. Hough later filed a $20 million civil lawsuit in 2021, accusing Petty of pressuring her to recant.
Hough’s lawyer, Marjorie Mesidor, quickly fired back against the filing, dismissing the document entirely.
An Old Tactic: Mesidor stated to media outlets that the exact tactic was attempted by Petty back in 1994 and was widely disregarded by the judge at the time.
Questions of Authenticity: Hough’s team also emphasized that a minor producing a typewritten recantation without parental consent is highly suspicious, explicitly noting, “…and this is simply not her signature”.
