Legal troubles continue to mount for Sean “Diddy” Combs, but this time, the friction is coming from inside his own camp.
Attorneys from the prominent New York firm Sher Tremonte LLP filed a motion in federal court asking a judge to let them step down from representing Combs.
Unpaid Balances: According to attorney Michael Tremonte, Combs has failed to pay the firm for more than six months, leaving a substantial balance of overdue legal fees, costs, and expenses.
Communication Breakdown: Beyond financial disagreements, the firm cited an alleged “total breakdown in cooperation and communication,” noting that Combs has not made himself available for meaningful discussions regarding his cases for over four months.
The Case at Stake: The withdrawal request specifically impacts Combs’ ongoing $100 million defamation lawsuit against Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media (parent company of NewsNation). The firm is also seeking a retaining lien to hold onto certain case files until the financial dispute is settled.
Representatives for Combs strongly disputed the firm’s account, characterizing the split as a business disagreement rather than simple non-payment.
In a statement shared through his spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, Combs asserted that he made the decision to switch counsel because he believed he was being overcharged for unapproved expenses. Meanwhile, Tremonte has firmly rejected any accusations of overcharging, maintaining that the firm handled a heavy volume of work efficiently under difficult circumstances.
