Bob Mackie, the legendary fashion and costume designer who dressed some of the biggest names in entertainment for over six decades, has died. He was 87. The news was announced Monday on his official social media accounts. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today,” the statement read. “He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do.” The cause of death has not been released.

Mackie’s career spanned more than 60 years and included collaborations with Cher, Elton John, Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Dolly Parton, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, and RuPaul. He won nine Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2002. His work with Cher defined an era—the feathered headdresses, the sheer gowns, the Bob Mackie originals that became as famous as the singer herself. He also designed costumes for The Carol Burnett Show, creating the infamous “Went with the Wind” curtain dress that became one of the most recognizable costumes in television history.

The statement concluded: “His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.” Tributes poured in from across the entertainment industry, with fans and celebrities alike celebrating a man who spent his life making the world sparkle. He was 87.
