Kody Brown and his only remaining wife, Robyn Brown, are leaving Sister Wives after 16 years. The shocking news was revealed in the first trailer for Season 21, which dropped Monday, with TLC confirming at the start: “After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show.” Neither Kody nor Robyn commented on their exit in the trailer.

Kody’s ex-wives Christine, Janelle, and Meri expressed genuine surprise at the couple’s decision. “I don’t know what it means. I have no idea,” Christine says in the trailer. Janelle adds, “I was flabbergasted, really, when I got the news.” Meri echoes the sentiment: “I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show.” The three women are set to continue documenting their lives on the series, navigating their new chapters without the man who once stood at the center of their plural marriage.

The Brown family has faced major changes in recent years. Christine ended her spiritual marriage to Kody in 2021 after 25 years, followed shortly by Janelle after nearly 30 years. Meri was the last to call it quits, announcing their separation in December 2022. Christine remarried David Woolley in 2023, and Janelle recently announced a new romance with a man named Pete. Kody’s only remaining wife was Robyn, whom he legally married in 2014. Season 21 premieres Sunday, October 4, at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
