Rideshare giant Uber has unveiled its latest safety update designed specifically for family accounts: a real-time live video feature that allows parents to watch their teenager’s ride as it happens. Building on existing safety protocols like GPS tracking and audio recording, the company aims to offer guardians increased peace of mind while teens travel independently.
The new feature integrates directly into Uber’s dedicated Teen Accounts, which were launched to give teenagers aged 13–17 safe, independent transportation options under parental oversight.
Live Streaming Capabilities: Once a teen’s ride begins, linked parents receive a notification allowing them to access a secure, live-streamed video feed of the vehicle’s interior in real time via their own mobile app.
Privacy and Driver Protocols: Uber noted that drivers participating in teen trips are explicitly notified when live monitoring features are active, with video data encrypted to protect the privacy of both riders and drivers.
Expanding Safety Tech: The update joins existing protections such as PIN verification codes, live GPS route sharing, and automated safety check-ins if a trip strays off course or experiences an unexpected delay.
As mobile-first transportation continues to be a staple for busy families, Uber’s introduction of live video streaming marks a significant step forward in digital monitoring. The feature is currently rolling out across select major markets before expanding nationwide.
