The death of Buffalo Bills star Ed Oliver’s 2-year-old son has been officially ruled an accident, with authorities closing the case and confirming no criminal charges will be filed. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office tells TMZ its Homicide Division has closed the case, and no charges will be filed against the NFL player or anyone else.
Ed’s son, also named Ed, drowned in the swimming pool at the player’s Texas home on June 28. Deputies responded to a life-in-danger call after the boy’s parents found him unresponsive in the pool. The toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ed was seen speaking with law enforcement outside the home before breaking down in tears. A Montgomery County medical examiner’s report lists the death as an accidental drowning.
News of the tragedy didn’t become public until nearly two months later, drawing a strong reaction from Ed’s Bills teammate, star quarterback Josh Allen. Allen said he was “sad and angry” that a podcaster revealed the death before Ed and his family were ready to share it themselves, while thanking those who knew and kept it private. The Bills organization has continued to offer support and privacy to Oliver, with General Manager Brandon Beane calling it “an unthinkable tragedy for any parent”.
