Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly died at the age of 66 after battling stage four cancer. The news comes just days after his family and management appealed for urgent medical assistance for the actor, whose condition had reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks.
Ogogo’s daughter, Kira Taiwo, confirmed the actor’s death in a heartbreaking video that has since gone viral on social media. She was seen in tears, struggling to process the loss, as she repeatedly said, “My daddy is dead”. Her emotional live session came after she and her sister had publicly revealed their father’s diagnosis and sought help for his treatment.
The veteran actor’s health struggles became public knowledge only recently. His daughters, Lima and Kira, had taken to social media to appeal for medical assistance, revealing that he was battling advanced cancer and was in critical condition. According to reports, they stated that hospitals were no longer able to administer chemotherapy, prompting the family to seek alternative treatment options. The appeal attracted hundreds of offers of support from colleagues and fans, with actor Jide Kosoko noting that over 300 people contacted the family with offers of assistance.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly known for his extensive work in Yoruba-language productions. He had a career spanning several decades, having started acting in the 1980s. The veteran was one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba cinema, with memorable performances in films like Owo Blow.
