Jaafar Jackson is opening up about why his aunt, Janet Jackson, didn’t appear in the Michael Jackson biopic, revealing that the legendary singer has her own biopic plans. The 29-year-old actor, who portrays the King of Pop in the blockbuster film, told GQ that Janet’s absence came down to creative timing.

“I don’t want to speak too early, but Janet has ideas of maybe doing her own film. So having someone portrayed in this and then choosing a different actor for her own is just…” Jaafar said, trailing off with a laugh. He added that the opportunity for her to appear in Michael didn’t line up the way she wanted it to.

Michael has become a massive box office hit, grossing over $1.08 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing music biopic in history, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody. Jaafar’s performance as his uncle has earned widespread acclaim. The film features appearances from several of Jackson’s siblings, including Tito, Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon, but Janet is notably absent.

Jaafar’s revelation confirms Janet’s own interest in telling her story on the big screen. The 59-year-old singer has had a legendary career of her own, with hits like “Rhythm Nation,” “That’s the Way Love Goes,” and “All for You.” Her journey, from the Jackson family dynamics to her status as a pop icon, would make for a compelling film. No studio has officially confirmed Janet’s biopic yet, but Jaafar’s comments suggest it’s a project she’s actively exploring.
