Queen Ramonda may have died in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the Ancestral Plane could bring her back. According to insider Alex Perez, Angela Bassett is reportedly set to reprise her role as the beloved Queen Mother in Black Panther 3. The third installment is rumored to feature a large focus on the Ancestral Plane, leaving the door open for other characters from Wakanda’s past to also return.
The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, reportedly leans into a darker, supernatural tone compared to its predecessors, making the Ancestral Plane a central narrative device. That dimension in the MCU is where the spirits of deceased Wakandans reside, allowing characters like Killmonger to appear in Wakanda Forever. With Ramonda’s death in the sequel, her return via the Ancestral Plane would be a natural fit. Bassett herself has previously expressed openness to returning, acknowledging that in the MCU “to die is not really to die”.
Beyond the Ancestral Plane, the film is also rumored to feature a return to Talokan, Namor’s underwater kingdom. Black Panther 3 is currently slated for a theatrical release on December 15, 2028.
