The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s psychological thriller Verity has unveiled its first full-length trailer, and it’s every bit as twisted as fans hoped. The Amazon MGM Studios film, directed by Michael Showalter, brings a star-studded cast to Hoover’s dark tale of obsession and deception.

Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway, after a tragic accident leaves her unable to continue her workJosh Hartnett co-stars as Jeremy Crawford, Verity’s husband, who becomes entangled with Lowen. The trailer teases a seductive, psychosexual mystery, blending Hitchcockian suspense with Stephen King-style unease.

The story takes a dark turn when Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes. She wrestles with disturbing confessions about Jeremy, making it increasingly difficult to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession. The tagline sets the tone: “There is no light where we’re going”.

Showalter, who previously worked with Hathaway on The Idea of You, directs from a screenplay by horror writer Nick Antosca (Channel ZeroAntlers). The film is rated R for sexual content, nudity, language, violence, and bloody images.

Verity opens exclusively in theaters on October 2, 2026.
