Brittany Boltinhouse‘s reign as Miss North Carolina USA 2026 has come to an abrupt end. Just over a month after winning the crown in June, the 27-year-old was dethroned Wednesday following a “thorough review of recently surfaced information” regarding her conduct. The decision was made in consultation with Miss USA CEO Thom Brodeur, who stated Boltinhouse agreed to step down.
While Brodeur did not specify the exact nature of the posts, he made the organization’s stance clear: “The Miss USA Organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity”. Reports indicate the controversy stems from social media posts made between 2017 and 2019 under the alias “Sosa the Stallion,” in which Boltinhouse allegedly used racial slurs and described herself as “toxic”.
Brodeur emphasized that the title “isn’t a trinket”, it’s a “position of trust”. He noted that the decision was not based on a single moment but “conduct over an extended period of time”. Despite the severity of the decision, he urged compassion, acknowledging Boltinhouse is “still a human being with a family, a future and a life ahead of her”.
Brodeur revealed he has read Boltinhouse’s soon-to-be-released statement, which includes “ownership, accountability and apology”. First runner-up Myla Hadley will now assume the title and represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant later this month.
