Hollywood star Anya Taylor-Joy is offering a candid perspective on the acting craft, shedding light on why extreme “method acting” seems to be a practice rarely favored by female performers.

In a recent discussion surrounding her process, the acclaimed actress called out the practical and professional realities that keep women grounded during intense film shoots.

Staying Grounded: “If you’ll notice, women don’t method act because we have things to take care of, so we can’t completely lose our minds,” Taylor-Joy pointed out.

Redefining the Craft: Describing how she navigates high-intensity roles without losing herself in the process, she noted: “I see acting as a controlled psychosis in a way…”

Respecting the Crew: For Taylor-Joy, remaining in character continuously simply isn’t an option when collaborating with massive film crews. “I can’t imagine [staying in character] all the time because you’re going to work with hundreds of people and it is your responsibility to be good to them,” she stated.

Taylor-Joy highlighted that staying overly immersed at the expense of set etiquette isn’t a sustainable model for making movies. “If you’re too invested in being an asshole then that’s not gonna be very fun,” she added.

Her refreshing take has ignited conversations online, with fans and industry peers applauding her emphasis on professional courtesy, mental boundaries, and everyday accountability.
