Belmont Cameli is back on the ice, and he couldn’t be happier about it. The 28-year-old actor, who plays hockey captain Garrett Graham in Prime Video’s breakout hit Off Campus, is currently filming season 2 in Vancouver alongside his castmates. And despite the show becoming a global phenomenon, pulling 36 million viewers in just 12 days and becoming Prime Video’s third-biggest series debut ever, Cameli says stepping back into Garrett’s skates feels like coming home.
“It kind of feels just like going home for the summer,” Cameli told fans at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest in June. “It doesn’t really feel like we missed a beat. We had the press tour, and then we went straight to Vancouver to get to work, and it felt like we were just there.” The cast has already wrapped the first two episodes of season 2 and is deep into filming, with Cameli noting that the ensemble is “really alive” in the upcoming installment.
For fans worried that season 2’s focus on a different couple, Dean and Allie, based on the third book in Elle Kennedy’s series, might sideline Garrett and Hannah, Cameli offered reassurance. “I totally understand your concern,” he previously told Us Weekly. “We will be along for the ride the whole time.” Co-star Ella Bright confirmed the plan is for both of them to “stick” around, with Cameli adding that they’re “excited to see what season 2 holds for them”.
Cameli attributes the show’s massive appeal to its refreshing take on masculinity. “People have felt a little starved for somebody who is so comfortable in their masculinity, that they’re also comfortable in their femininity,” he told GQ. “Somebody who leads with empathy from a position of power is just refreshing for audiences to see.” He believes the timing was perfect: “It struck the zeitgeist because the zeitgeist was asking for it.”
Despite the newfound fame and more fans gathering at filming locations, Cameli says the vibe on set remains unchanged. “For me, and I think I can speak for the cast too, nothing is different. I think a big reason why the show has success is because we’ve protected the magic of it.” The cast’s real-life chemistry has only deepened, with Cameli describing the experience as “really sweet”. With the writing for season 2 described as “incredible” and a clear visual identity now established, fans can expect more of the warmth, wit, and romance that made Off Campus an instant classic.
