Veteran character actor Vincent Pastore, best remembered for his iconic role as mobster-turned-informant Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80.
Pastore was found dead at his New York residence on Saturday, with representatives confirming he appears to have passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Breakout Mobster Role: Pastore starred in 30 episodes of The Sopranos, delivering one of television history’s most memorable storylines as Tony Soprano’s trusted friend who secretly turns FBI informant.
Hollywood Character Favorite: Beyond The Sopranos, his decades-long career included appearances in acclaimed crime classics like Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way, and Gotti.
Tributes Pour In: Longtime co-stars and managers honored Pastore as “one of the kindest, most generous people” in the industry, remembering his deep warmth toward fans and young actors.
Pastore’s transition into acting came later in life after years spent running New York bars, proving it is never too late to make a mark in the craft. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
