Pop icon Ariana Grande is officially taking legal action against the cybercriminals targeting her creative archive.
On Monday, July 27, 2026, Grande’s legal team filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against unnamed “John Doe” hackers who allegedly used phishing schemes to breach devices belonging to her producers, photographers, and key collaborators. The suit accuses the group of stealing unreleased songs, private photographs, and behind-the-scenes recording footage, which were later sold on the dark web for substantial sums.
According to the legal filing, the hackers strategically avoided targeting Grande directly, instead deploying backdoor tactics against members of her creative team to access confidential files:
Systematic Phishing: The lawsuit details a pattern of attacks dating back to 2011, including a 2019 Dropbox breach of a photographer’s account and a 2020 hack into a producer’s mobile device.
Massive Leaks: In 2023 alone, the perpetrators allegedly stole and leaked 45 unreleased tracks.
Social Engineering: In 2024, hackers impersonated a photographer via a fake Gmail domain to trick a digital technician into handing over unreleased photo shoots.
“This malicious invasion of Ms. Grande’s privacy and disruption of her career have caused her substantial and irreparable harm,” her attorneys wrote. “The unauthorized misappropriation and disclosure of these materials is a violation of Ms. Grande’s identity and artistry, and the direct and sacred relationship that exists between her and her fans.”
Because the defendants are currently listed as anonymous “John Does,” Grande plans to seek court approval to issue subpoenas to internet service providers (ISPs) and major digital platforms. By tracing IP addresses and digital footprints, her legal team aims to unmask the individuals behind the leaks and hold them criminally and financially accountable.
The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief alongside monetary damages, sending a clear message that illegal content distribution and privacy breaches will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
