Former NBA guard and Slam Dunk Contest champion Isaiah Rider is back in police custody after being arrested in Arizona on a misdemeanor charge for failing to comply with a court order.
Maricopa County jail records confirm that the 54-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers player was booked following a warrant issued in connection with an ongoing protective order filed by his estranged wife, Vanessa.
The latest legal trouble marks Rider’s third arrest in less than two months as he continues to navigate a turbulent legal battle stemming from domestic proceedings.
Protective Order Origins: Vanessa filed for an emergency order of protection in July 2025, alleging hostile and aggressive behavior directed toward herself and her teenage son.
Allegations & Denial: Rider has consistently denied the claims, arguing that the protective order was sought as leverage following his November 2024 divorce filing.
Failure to Comply: After previously being booked for allegedly violating the no-contact order and failing to appear for a scheduled hearing, a judge upheld the protective order and issued an arrest warrant when Rider failed to comply with court directives.
In a statement regarding the ongoing legal matters, Vanessa maintained that the court orders were sought “solely for safety reasons, to protect myself and my child from further harm”.
