Elon Musk is facing intense backlash from Hollywood directors after vowing to use AI to produce his own version of The Odyssey. The attack on Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation comes after Musk previously called Nolan an “anti-White racist” for casting Lupita Nyong’o in the film.
Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson fired back on X: “Clearly Elon Musk doesn’t know shit about cinema & he stopped reading in his 20s. His opinions on art are worthless.” The director, who also helmed The Black Phone, wasn’t alone in pushing back. 3 Body Problem creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also condemned Musk’s anti-Nyong’o remarks.
Nolan’s The Odyssey is set for release next week, featuring an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. Musk hasn’t specified which AI tools he would use, but the announcement has been met with widespread criticism from the film community.
