Aniston was originally attached to star as the fictionalized version of McCurdy’s mother, Debra, alongside her duties as executive producer.
The pairing was touted as a potential career-defining dramatic role for Aniston, drawing immense buzz across the industry. However, sources reveal that after months of pre-production delays and script revisions, Aniston was forced to bow out due to her packed filming slate, including ongoing commitments to The Morning Show.
Aniston’s departure is the latest in a string of behind-the-scenes disruptions for the high-profile adaptation. Shortly after the show’s initial announcement, director Jason Reitman dropped out of the project over creative differences with McCurdy.
