Matt Damon is opening up about the secret behind his two-decade marriage to Luciana Damon, calling her the “greatest thing” in his life. In an interview with PEOPLE ahead of “The Odyssey” premiere, the 55-year-old actor reflected on what has kept their relationship solid since they first met in 2003.
“I’ve always loathed to give advice because I feel everybody’s different and everybody’s relationship is different,” Damon said. “There’s a lot of love and respect underneath the relationship, and a lot of trust. It’s built on a very sturdy foundation. We continue to grow and evolve as people, and so that foundation’s really everything.”
The couple met when Luciana was bartending in Miami while Damon was filming “Stuck on You.” He hid behind the bar to escape fans, she put him to work making drinks, and they connected instantly. They married in December 2005 and now share four daughters: Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella.
Luciana has become an integral part of Damon’s professional life too. She reads every script, watches every cut, and has relied on her notes for 23 years. She’s also a partner at their production company, Artists Equity, and produced the film “Animals” while Damon was shooting “The Odyssey.”
