The night opened with “The Ruler’s Back,” where Jay-Z was joined onstage by the legendary Slick Rick, who helped set the tone for an evening dedicated entirely to one of hip-hop’s most foundational albums.
The surprises kept coming when Eminem emerged to join Jay-Z for their 2001 classic “Renegade”, a performance that marked their first time playing the song live together since their 2010 Home & Home Tour. Before leaving the stage, the Detroit rapper kept the energy at an all-time high with a solo performance of his smash hit “Lose Yourself”. The guest appearances continued with Pharrell Williams, who joined Jay-Z for a run of collaborative hits including “Frontin’,” “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me),” and “Allure”.
The show broke Yankee Stadium’s concert attendance record, selling 45,832 tickets and surpassing the record set just the night before. Jay-Z performed the bulk of The Blueprint in full, skipping the diss track “Takeover” to avoid reigniting past tensions, a decision that reflected a focus on unity and healing, especially given that former rival Nas had performed with him the previous night. During the set, Jay-Z reflected on the album’s release on September 11, 2001, telling the crowd he “almost walked away from releasing it given what the city was going through at the time”.
