Dwayne Johnson turned the live-action Moana premiere into a full family reunion. The 54-year-old actor walked the blue carpet at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 7 with his wife Lauren Hashian and all three daughters by his side. His mother Ata, ex-wife Dany Garcia, and Garcia’s husband Dave Rienzi also joined the celebration.
Jasmine, 10, and Tiana, 8, stole attention in matching blue dresses with red hibiscus flowers and coordinating hair accessories, while eldest daughter Simone, 24, looked chic in a black midi dress. Johnson’s younger girls previously voiced characters in Moana 2 and were thrilled to see themselves on screen. The actor said, “They were sitting on the edge of their seats, literally, and just waiting. Then their scene came up, and they’re just like, ‘That’s me!’ “
Johnson also revealed he personally requested his daughters and mother appear in the live-action film. He told director Thomas Kail, “I know how this sounds. It sounds like total nepotism,” but asked for a moment with no dialogue where they could simply be present. Kail granted the request. The premiere also featured a traditional Polynesian dance, with Johnson and his daughters joining performers on stage. Moana hits theaters July 10.
