Sexyy Red Writes Emotional Letter to Judge About Tay Keith

Sexyy Red poured her heart out in a letter to the judge overseeing late producer Tay Keith’s unpaid royalties lawsuit, telling the court she was blindsided by being named as a defendant and pleading for her name to be removed. The emotional letter, written on June 6, 2026, came just days before Keith’s tragic death on June 18.

“I am appalled and furthermore hurt by the allegations made,” she wrote, explaining that she never had direct control over payments to producers. “Tay Keith and I are great working partners and even greater friends. If the label owes him money, I’m sure they have started the process to get him paid.”

Tay Keith had sued Sexyy Red’s label, Rebel Music, in March 2026, claiming he produced 13 songs for her in 2024—including the hit “Pound Town”, and was never paid a dime. He alleged the label refused to provide proper accounting for revenues generated by the songs and sought court intervention to force payment and damages.

Sexyy Red emphasized in her letter that artists don’t handle royalty negotiations. “There are several songs that Tay Keith and I have worked on together that I haven’t received payment for yet,” she noted. “It’s just a process the label uses in making payments after all the monies are recouped.”

Both sides have confirmed Sexyy Red was never the target of the legal action. A representative for Tay Keith clarified that naming her in the lawsuit was “a legal formality” and that “any allegations are directed at the label, not Red personally”. The label’s attorney, Dameka Davis, stated that royalty negotiations are handled exclusively by labels and that they were in the final stages of fully compensating Keith before his shocking passing. The label is now expediting payment to his estate.
