Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce might be getting married at Madison Square Garden after all, just not in front of 1,000 guests. The couple is hosting a gathering of around 100 people on July 2, the night before their main wedding celebration is set to go down at the iconic New York City venue. The New York Times first reported the news.
It’s unclear exactly what the pair plans to do on July 2, but given the smaller group before a wedding celebration, it seems highly likely this could be the actual wedding ceremony, or perhaps a welcome bash for close friends and family. The couple’s MSG wedding-related festivities have been a major topic of discussion over the past month, with the pair inviting friends and dropping a bag on securing the venue over the upcoming holiday weekend.
The couple chose MSG for their party in the first place because it doesn’t have windows people could take photographs through, and the underground parking lot provides an added layer of privacy, perfect for a mega-star wedding celebration. The venue is known as “The World’s Most Famous Arena” and has significant meaning for Swift, who performed multiple concerts there, including her first talent show appearance at a Knicks game in 2003 when she was 13.
The main event on July 3 is expected to draw between 500 and 999 people, possibly up to 1,200 guests, with a budget rumored to exceed $20 million. A permit has been filed to close streets around MSG from July 2 through midday July 4. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly alluded to the couple’s plans during a press conference, saying, “We know it coincides with the Knicks’ Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding”.
Taylor and Travis both spent last weekend apart, hanging with their respective friend groups for what looked like bachelor and bachelorette parties. Swift hosted friends at her Rhode Island mansion, while Kelce was spotted in California with brother Jason Kelce and teammate Patrick Mahomes. Several Kansas City Chiefs players have also reportedly booked rooms at the New York Marriott Marquis for the holiday weekend.
