Kevin Hart is taking his former employee to court, demanding a five-figure sum for what he claims is a clear violation of their agreement. The comedian is asking a judge to order Miesha Shakes, his executive assistant from 2017 to 2020, to pay $50,000 in damages for breaching a non-disclosure agreement she signed after her employment ended.
The dispute centers on an interview Shakes gave to blogger Tasha K in late 2023, where Hart claims she shared confidential information about his personal life. According to court documents, Hart’s team allegedly received a call from someone associated with Tasha K offering to kill the interview in exchange for a $250,000 payment. Hart refused, reported the incident to police, and sent a cease-and-desist letter. The interview still aired on December 22, 2023.
In a sworn declaration, Hart told the court his career depends heavily on public perception. He noted his involvement in family-oriented projects like the Jumanji franchise and Fatherhood, as well as endorsement deals with national brands. “I have therefore suffered harm as a result of the interview’s publication,” Hart stated, estimating the damage at roughly $50,000.
Shakes has pushed back, arguing the NDA is not valid. She claims she was suffering from “significant mental health issues” and financial distress at the time of signing, and that Hart allegedly told her it was simply a “mutual release” without mentioning a confidentiality clause. A jury trial has been scheduled for October 12, where the battle over Hart’s reputation and the enforceability of the agreement will be decided.
