A GoFundMe campaign created for Daveigh Chase in her final days is now raising serious questions. The actress, best known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died on June 16 at age 35 from meningitis and sepsis complications. Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, launched the fundraiser to cover her medical and living expenses, but her longtime friends and family are pushing back.
Hernandez says he has been with Chase since 2019 and started the GoFundMe as her health deteriorated. He wrote that she was diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood infections, with doctors warning she might not have much time left. “All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy,” he wrote in the campaign description.
But Chase’s former manager and longtime friend is urging the public not to donate. He told TMZ that neither her family nor close friends know who Hernandez is. “A man claiming to be Daveigh’s boyfriend has launched a GoFundMe page purportedly on behalf of Daveigh and her family,” he said.
The manager also confirmed that Chase has a SAG trust account with more than enough funds to cover all medical and related expenses. Her father has already contacted the hospital to claim her body.
Hernandez insists the GoFundMe is legitimate, calling the allegations “100 percent” false. He says he planned to use the funds to ensure Chase receives a proper memorial.
The campaign has raised only a fraction of its $5,500 goal as questions continue to swirl . Chase stepped away from acting in 2016 and faced personal struggles in recent years, including a 2018 arrest on drug possession charges. Her final days were marked by health complications that Hernandez described as devastating.
For now, the debate over the fundraiser remains unresolved. GoFundMe has not commented on the situation.
