Written and directed by 26-year-old Curry Barker, Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a shy music store employee who uses a supernatural toy called the “One Wish Willow” to make his childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette) fall obsessively in love with him. What begins as a fantasy quickly spirals into something deeply disturbing. The film has held exceptionally well at the domestic box office, actually growing in its second weekend, a rare feat for any horror release. Industry tracking suggests the film could finish its run with over $280 million worldwide.
