Legendary music executive Clive Davis is resting at home after being hospitalized for nearly a full week. The 94-year-old record mogul was admitted to a New York City hospital on a Friday and discharged the following Thursday, according to his spokesperson.
The Grammy-winning producer, who co-founded Arista Records and shaped modern popular music for more than five decades, is now recuperating in good spirits. His team confirmed that the 94-year-old music icon is happy to be back in familiar surroundings after the extended hospital stay.
The noted executive was initially admitted for an upper respiratory infection, a condition that can be particularly serious for older adults. While the infection required close monitoring and nearly seven days of inpatient care, Davis has since been cleared for home recovery.
An upper respiratory infection typically involves the sinuses, throat, airways, or lungs. For someone of Davis’s age, medical teams often err on the side of caution, which explains the length of his hospital stay despite ultimately positive outcomes.
This is not the first health scare for the music titan. In 2021, Davis was forced to postpone his annual, star-studded Grammy gala after being diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, a condition that causes sudden weakness or paralysis on one side of the face. He made a full recovery from that episode and resumed his legendary party circuit.
Davis’s influence on the music industry is nearly impossible to overstate. He co-founded Arista Records and went on to sign or develop some of the biggest names in recording history. His roster has included Neil Diamond, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, and Whitney Houston, whom he famously discovered and guided to superstardom.
He also played a pivotal role in the careers of Kelly Clarkson and Aretha Franklin, among countless others. At 94, Davis remains active in the industry, attending major events and working on projects when his health allows.
With his discharge now official, Davis is expected to rest fully before any return to public appearances. His team has not announced whether he will attend upcoming industry events, but given his well-documented resilience, a full recovery appears likely.
For now, the man who built empires at Arista and J Records is focused on something simpler: breathing easy at home.
