It’s the news video-gamers across the world have been
waiting almost 20 years for but now Sony Pictures Entertainment and
Marza Animation have confirmed plans to develop a feature film based on
the popular 90’s computing icon, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic has sold over 140 million games and grossed over a billion
dollars as a worldwide franchise with comics, toys, even an animated
television show and now is set to make a bucket load of more cash with
the blue racer’s first ever movie.
In an official statement confirming the news, Sony Pictures
president, Hannah Minghella announced: “There are limitless stories to
tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog, and a built-in
international fan base. Along with our wonderful creative partners at
Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know
and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever
before.”
In a press release, Sony say the film while be a combination of both
live action and computer animation with Evan Susser and Van Robichaux,
penning the screenplay and 22 Jump Street’s Neil Mortiz producing.
The film will feature all of your Sonic the Hedgehog favourites
including the speed demon’s infamous nemesis, Dr. Eggman. An official
release date will be announced soon.
