Co-parenting goals look a lot like Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson flashing proud smiles in the heart of New York City. On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the friendly celebrity exes reunited to celebrate a monumental milestone: the college graduation of their 22-year-old son, Ryder Robinson, from New York University.
The Kate Hudson Chris Robinson Ryder college graduation 2026 celebration wasn’t just a proud moment for the parents it marked a historic first for the entire family dynamic.
Speaking ahead of the commencement events during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hudson, 47, couldn’t contain her emotional excitement, revealing that Ryder is breaking entirely new academic ground for their famous Hollywood lineage.
“He’s not a kid. Ryder’s 22… he’s graduating college,” Hudson shared with Fallon. “We realized, I think—and I could get this wrong and offend some generation in my family—but I think he’s the first person ever in my family history to graduate college.”
Following the massive university-wide commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, the family gathered in Manhattan for private celebrations. Hudson took to her Instagram Stories to share a glimpse of the milestone, posting a sweet photo of herself leaning her head on Ryder’s shoulder beneath the iconic lights of Radio City Music Hall, decorating the snap with three symbolic purple hearts to match NYU’s school colors.
Ryder was also spotted proudly sporting his violet graduation gown and black cap alongside his father, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.
True to the family’s notoriously tight-knit, modern structure, the graduation weekend brought out the entire extended clan. Cheering Ryder on from the stands were his legendary maternal grandparents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, alongside his siblings and several of Hudson’s former partners, proving once again that the Glass Onion actress has mastered the art of amicable co-parenting.
“For me it’s like, you loved this person. That doesn’t just go away, but you can re-establish a different kind of love,” Hudson previously explained regarding her approach to blending families. “You can have an amazing time with an ex-partner because you’re really only focused on the love of your child.”
With a degree from NYU officially locked in, the world is wide open for Ryder. While he grew up surrounded by rock star energy from his father and cinematic royalty from his mother’s side, his parents hint that his future could take a couple of very different directions.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chris Robinson predicted that his son would likely favor the screen over the stage. “I imagine he’s going to lean a little more towards the handsome leading man time in his life and not so much the freaky, gratuitous, bohemian rock-and-roll part of his other family,” Robinson joked. “Very proud of him.”
However, Hudson has also revealed that Ryder possesses a deep passion for hands-on craftsmanship and home decor. “He loves designing furniture, and he’s making a sofa right now,” she shared during a recent Today appearance. “I’m like, ‘Maybe go in that direction, Ryder!'” Whichever path he chooses, he officially steps out into the post-grad world with the full, undivided backing of his incredibly supportive family ecosystem.
