The Mystery Machine is officially gassed up and ready to roll. On Friday, April 24, 2026, Netflix delighted fans by announcing the official title and the first-look cast photo for its highly anticipated live-action project. Titled Scooby-Doo: Origins, the eight-episode series has officially begun production in Atlanta, Georgia. The Scooby-Doo Origins Netflix live-action series 2026 is being described as a “modern reimagining” that takes the iconic meddling kids back to the very beginning of their supernatural adventures.
The first-look image features the core four peeking out from behind a wooden door marked with a mysterious paw print. The cast is a blend of rising stars and seasoned young actors:
• Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake: The Ghostbusters: Afterlife star trades her proton pack for Daphne’s signature lavender aesthetic.
• Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones: Known for Lost in Space, Jenkins portrays the “strange but handsome” new kid in town.
• Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley: The Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret actress brings her pragmatic energy to the group’s resident genius.
• Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers: The newcomer steps into the oversized shoes of the world’s most lovable coward.
While Scooby himself was absent from the initial photo, Netflix confirmed that the legendary Frank Welker will return to voice the iconic Great Dane. Paul Walter Hauser also joins the cast in a series-regular role, rumored to be the original owner of the puppy Scooby.
Developed by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (Citadel, Zoo), the series is aiming for a tone reminiscent of Stranger Things. The plot kicks off during a final summer at camp, where Shaggy and Daphne stumble upon a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
The project is a heavy-hitter collaboration between Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. With Greg Berlanti executive producing, fans can expect a mix of genuine scares, grounded mystery, and a bold aesthetic that honors the 50-year-old franchise while carving out a new nightmare for the teens to solve.
