The longest-running couple from Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum” has officially called it quits. Abbey Romeo and David Isaacman confirmed their split in a joint statement, ending nearly five years together that captivated audiences worldwide.
“Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other,” the couple and their families said in the statement. “At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends, wishing each other the best.”
The Abbey and David breakup brings an end to a relationship that began with a blind date in July 2021, documented during the show’s first season.
The pair’s first date took place at California’s Wildlife Learning Center, where a shared love for animals created an instant connection. When David asked for a second date, Abbey famously played coy: “Maybe one day. I’ll think about it. I’ll let my mom know.”
They became official that Christmas and went on to appear in all four seasons of the Emmy-winning series. Abbey even wrote and performed an original song for David titled “Boyfriend Forever,” which landed her a spot on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
The tension that ultimately led to the Abbey and David breakup had been building for some time. Abbey confessed on a podcast just weeks before the split that David wasn’t ready for marriage.
“I do love him, but he’s not ready to get married,” she said. “I do want to be married, but I just don’t know when.”
Sources confirmed the couple couldn’t agree on a timeline. Abbey was reportedly ready years ago, while David still needed more time.
Despite the split, both stars are doing well. A source close to David said he is handling the breakup with grace. The joint statement emphasized they “remain friends” with nothing but goodwill between them.
Fans had noticed signs in recent months. David’s last appearance on Abbey’s social media was December 2025 during a trip to Universal Studios. The couple had previously discussed wanting to take things slow, with Abbey noting she didn’t want to end up “a divorced lady like my mom.”
The Abbey and David breakup marks the end of an era for “Love on the Spectrum” fans. But both stars have expressed gratitude for the time they shared and the love they received from viewers worldwide.
