The Lil Durk trial date has been moved to August 25, 2026, marking the latest delay in the Chicago rapper’s high-profile murder-for-hire case. But legal insiders say things could accelerate significantly if a pending severance motion breaks in his favor.
Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, faces allegations that he paid five men to carry out the 2022 shooting of fellow rapper Quando Rondo. Prosecutors say the intended target survived, but Quando’s cousin, Lul Pab, was killed. The Grammy-winning artist was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Miami in 2024 and has remained in custody since.
During a February 23 pretrial hearing, a judge set the new Lil Durk trial date for late summer 2026. The delay was granted primarily to accommodate scheduling for a co-defendant’s defense team. However, three co-defendants have filed a motion to sever their cases from Durk’s. If granted, Durk’s legal team has indicated they want to move much sooner, potentially to the original April 21, 2026, date.
Durk appeared in court wearing a white jumpsuit with grey sleeves, now sporting a full beard after shaving his head last year. His father, Dontay Banks, was present in support, along with actors from the series Power. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The judge has not yet ruled on the severance motion. Prosecutors oppose further delays, while Durk’s lawyers are pushing to avoid any additional postponements. The case has seen repeated shifts. An original January 2025 date moved to October 2025, then to January 2026, then to April 21, 2026 and now to August.
