The calendar keeps shifting. Diddy’s release date from federal prison has been moved up for the third time since his 50-month sentence was handed down. The music mogul is now scheduled to walk free on April 15, 2028.
That is 10 days earlier than previously reported and nearly a full month before his original release date.
Diddy was originally sentenced to 50 months in prison, with a projected release date of May 8, 2028. That changed after he allegedly violated prison rules, pushing his freedom back to June 4, 2028.
Then came the first good news. The rapper was accepted into the Residential Drug Abuse Program last November, a voluntary intensive treatment initiative for incarcerated individuals with substance abuse issues. His release date moved up to April 25, 2028.
Now, after continued progress in the program, the date has shifted forward once more. April 15, 2028. That is 23 days earlier than his post-RDAP date and 53 days earlier than his original sentence completion.
A representative for Diddy confirmed his active participation in the program. “Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start,” the rep said. “He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change.”
The RDAP program typically allows eligible participants to earn up to 12 months off their sentence upon successful completion. Diddy’s continued progress suggests he remains on track.
The updated release date comes just one week before Diddy’s attorneys present oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In December, his legal team filed an appeal against both his conviction and sentence, arguing that Judge Arun Subramanian handed down an unfair punishment.
The defense maintains that the sexual encounters mentioned during the trial were consensual. Federal prosecutors have pushed back, arguing to keep the conviction and sentence intact due to what they describe as Diddy’s alleged pattern of threatening victims and inflicting violence.
If the appeal succeeds, Diddy could see his sentence reduced further or potentially overturned. If it fails, April 15, 2028, remains his confirmed exit date. For now, the rapper continues his rehabilitation work behind bars while his legal team fights for his freedom in court.
