OJ Da Juiceman Faces 10 Felony Charges After Highway Standoff With Trooper

Atlanta trap pioneer OJ Da Juiceman is facing serious legal trouble following a highway standoff with a Georgia State Trooper that prosecutors say involved a firearm pointed at law enforcement. The rapper, whose legal name is Otis Williams Jr., was arrested on March 15 and hit with 10 charges, including three felonies, after an investigation into a January incident on Interstate 20 East.

The case, however, has already grown more complicated. An affidavit from a woman who rented the vehicle in question claims the rapper was not behind the wheel during the alleged confrontation.

According to legal documents obtained, the incident occurred in late January when a Georgia State Patrol trooper was merging into the HOV lane on I-20 East in Atlanta. The officer reported that a vehicle began tailgating and honking aggressively before pulling alongside the patrol car.

That’s when the driver allegedly pointed a black handgun directly at the trooper. The vehicle then sped off, weaving recklessly through traffic. The trooper claims he caught up to the vehicle a second time, and the driver allegedly pointed the gun at him again before fleeing the scene.

Authorities later identified the vehicle as a rented Nissan Altima and, after an investigation, linked it to OJ Da Juiceman. An arrest warrant was issued in February, and the rapper was taken into custody on March 15.

The highway standoff resulted in 10 total charges filed against the 44-year-old rapper. The most serious include:

  • One felony count of aggravated assault upon a public safety officer

  • One felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony

  • One misdemeanor count of pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another person

  • Seven misdemeanor traffic offenses, including reckless driving, aggressive driving, and following too closely

Aggravated assault on a public safety officer in Georgia carries significant prison time if a conviction follows .

OJ Da Juiceman’s defense team moved quickly to challenge the prosecution’s narrative. A sworn affidavit submitted during bond proceedings claims the rapper was not the driver of the Nissan Altima during the alleged incident .

The woman who submitted the affidavit stated that she was the one who rented the vehicle. According to her account, OJ rented the car on her behalf, and she later permitted another man to use it. To her knowledge, she said, the rapper “was not behind the wheel” when the trooper reported the gun-pointing encounter .

His attorney also argued during bond proceedings that the rapper, a well-known Atlanta musician with deep ties to Georgia, is not a flight risk. The defense emphasized his career, family connections, and public profile as reasons he should be released ahead of trial.

OJ Da Juiceman emerged from Atlanta’s trap scene in the late 2000s, gaining national recognition through his association with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad collective . His 2008 single “Make tha Trap Say Aye” became a regional anthem and helped define the sound of Atlanta hip-hop during that era .

He was named a 2010 XXL Freshman alongside J. Cole, Freddie Gibbs, and Nipsey Hussle . In 2009, he survived being shot eight times and famously performed a show the same week, though the incident left him with a permanent limp .

The rapper released his latest project, R&B Juice 2, just days before his March 15 arrest .

The case remains pending, with the affidavit disputing his presence in the vehicle likely playing a central role in future proceedings . If the woman’s account holds up under scrutiny, it could raise serious questions about the identification process that led to the arrest warrant .

Online jail records showed OJ Da Juiceman no longer in custody as of March 22 . A representative for the rapper declined to comment.
