Mattel releases the first autistic Barbie doll through its Fashionistas line. Developed over 18 months with Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), the doll features articulated elbows/wrists for stimming, averted gaze, sensory-friendly A-line dress, and flat shoes.Accessories include spinning pink fidget spinner, noise-canceling headphones, and communication tablet.

Eyes shift sideways reflecting eye contact avoidance common in autism. Loose-fitting outfit minimizes sensory overload while providing body awareness. Indian-inspired features highlight underrepresented autistic women of color.ASAN emphasizes diverse autism presentations beyond stereotypes.
