400+ Celebrities Rally Behind Jimmy Kimmel
Over 400 celebrities have signed an open letter from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), condemning ABC and Disney’s indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! The letter calls the move a “dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.” It argues that a government’s threat of retaliation against a private company for its host’s comments sets a dangerous precedent.
Among the signatories are Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, and Jennifer Aniston. The letter warns that efforts to silence journalists, artists, and entertainers “strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country” and urges Americans to defend their constitutional rights.
