Michelle Obama revealed on her IMO podcast that Barack Obama found their youngest daughter Sasha more “difficult” to parent due to her independent temperament, describing her as “like a cat” who says “Don’t touch me, don’t pet me.
I’m not pleasing you.” Unlike older sister Malia, who was a “pleaser” and would seek out political discussions with her father about topics like Syria, Sasha wasn’t interested in gaining approval.
Michelle explained that Sasha simply possessed a different temperament and wasn’t defiant, just not a people-pleaser like Malia.
The former First Lady emphasized that parents “have to be a chameleon and adjust to different temperaments.”
