Lindsay Lohan is back—and this time, she’s calling more shots than ever.
As she gears up for the release of Freakier Friday, the long-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2003 Freaky Friday, the 39-year-old actress is opening up about how much her role behind the scenes has evolved.
In a recent chat with Empire magazine, Lindsay revealed that her experience as an executive producer on Netflix projects inspired her to become more hands-on with her films, including the new bodyswap comedy.
“It really came from the movies I was doing with Netflix,” Lindsay explained.
“When I’m reading the script, I’m already visualising where it’s going to be, what the character’s wearing… I like to be fully involved in the projects I do now, from the ground up.”
And Freakier Friday is no exception. Lohan returns as Anna Coleman, now all grown up and navigating motherhood, a blended family, and yet another wild body swap. Jamie Lee Curtis also reprises her role as Tess Coleman, and it was actually Jamie who sparked the sequel idea.
“She said, ‘What do you think, if we do Freaky Friday 2?’ I was like, ‘I’m in — it just has to be the right script.’”
Lindsay and Jamie’s on-set bond hasn’t changed either. In fact, Lindsay revealed she kept things energetic behind the scenes.
“Between takes, I would make Jamie do wall sits,” she laughed. “She’d be like, ‘Are we really doing this right now?’ and I’m like, ‘Yes, it’s good for us.’”
A Real-Life Mom Playing a Movie Mom
Lohan’s return to the big screen hits closer to home this time. Since becoming a mom herself in 2023 to son Luai with husband Bader Shammas, she’s been able to tap into new emotions for the character of Anna.
“Anna’s a mom now, raising a teenager… Everything is about your child. But we have to remember to make time for ourselves too, live our lives, fulfil our dreams.”
Back to Guitar (and Pushing Her Limits)
Fans of the original film will be thrilled to know Anna’s still rocking out on the guitar—and so is Lindsay.
“It was the same guitar, everything. It was like it was yesterday,” she said.
“We made it more difficult for this one. I’m such a perfectionist; we rehearsed a lot.”
With Freakier Friday hitting cinemas next month, it’s clear that Lindsay Lohan is not just making a comeback—she’s taking creative control, adding her personal growth and life experience into every frame.
