Bjorn Ulvaeus Uncertain About ABBA Voyage’s Future if a Member Passes Away

ABBA legend Bjorn Ulvaeus has admitted he’s unsure what would happen to the groundbreaking ABBA Voyage show if one of the iconic band’s members were to pass away.

In a candid interview with Times Radio on 14 July 2025, the 80-year-old music icon revealed that the topic had never been discussed among the bandmates, despite the show’s reliance on their digital likenesses.

“That’s a question I’ve never had before… I honestly don’t know, hadn’t thought about that,” Bjorn confessed.

“It’s good you raise that question – I’ll talk to the others about that, as we need to decide beforehand between us if it’s OK for all four of us to go on after we’re gone.”

What Is ABBA Voyage?

Launched in May 2022ABBA Voyage is a futuristic concert experience featuring digital “ABBA-tars” of the group as they appeared in 1979. The show combines original vocals and motion capture technology with a 10-piece live band, all performed inside a custom-built, 3,000-seat arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London.

Since its debut, the show has captivated over three million fans and continues to pull in global audiences. It was first announced during a historic 2021 livestream and has since become one of the most innovative and successful live entertainment projects in music history.

A Living Legacy… for Now

ABBA — made up of Bjorn Ulvaeus (80), Anni-Frid Lyngstad (79), Benny Andersson (78), and Agnetha Fältskog (75) — have yet to make a formal decision on whether the Voyage experience should continue in the event of a member’s death.

The uncertainty raises a deeper question about the ethics of using avatars and digital likenesses posthumously — a topic becoming increasingly relevant in entertainment and AI.

Anniversary Celebrations and New Additions

In May 2025, ABBA celebrated three years of ABBA Voyage, with Bjorn and Agnetha issuing a heartfelt message:

“When we first opened, we never imagined that we’d still be in London three years on. We’re very grateful that so many of you have joined us.”

To mark the anniversary, the setlist was expanded with fan favourites like “Super Trouper,” “Money, Money, Money,” and “Take a Chance on Me.” The current production now features 22 performances, divided into five acts and an encore, and is booking through January 2026.

Whether or not ABBA Voyage continues after the band’s time is still unknown, but one thing is clear — the magic of ABBA lives on, both on stage and in the hearts of millions.
