Get ready to hear that iconic Monday-hating meow again — Chris Pratt is officially returning to voice the world’s most relatable cat in the sequel to The Garfield Movie (2024), which clawed in over $260 million worldwide.
Pratt will not only reprise his role as the lazy, lasagna-loving tabby, but also take on double duty as producer, joining forces again with John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, and Alcon Entertainment’sAndrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Garfield’s Back… and So Is the Gang
Though casting details are still under wraps, the original animation team, DNEG Animation, and Prime Focus Studios (from Namit Malhotra) are back in the mix to deliver another round of feline fun. With talks ongoing for writers and directors, production wheels are already in motion.
This follows the success of the 2024 animated adventure, which reignited global love for Jim Davis’ comic-strip icon that’s been entertaining readers since 1978. From lazy naps and savage sarcasm to pestering Odie and dodging any form of exercise, Garfield’s charm clearly hasn’t faded.
Chris Pratt: The Voice Behind the Cat (and More)
Best known for action-packed roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, Pratt’s recent voice work shows his versatility. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor reflected on how his big-screen roles often feel like “Sliding Doors versions” of one another — each character exploring slightly different paths of heroism and growth.
“There’s always this journey,” Pratt explained. “They find something bigger than themselves to fight for and are willing to sacrifice for. Even Garfield has a little of that — hidden beneath all the snark.”
The Legacy of Garfield
Originally appearing in just 41 newspapers, Garfield now holds the Guinness World Record for the most widely syndicated comic strip, reaching 260 million readers in over 2,500 publicationsworldwide. From his 2004 live-action debut to today’s blockbuster animations, this fat cat just won’t quit.
